An ovarian teratoma. It forms when a single totipotent cell develops different tissues like hair, teeth and skin instead of a normal egg cell in the ovary.

    1. Ok yes this is gross and disturbing, but is anyone here knowledgeable on teeth? Could teeth extracted from this be used for dentures??? Or are they useless? Again I apologize for the gross question.

    2. It looks disgusting but it’s also interesting to do research on this so we can learn how to grow teeth, skin and hair in a controlled way to help people who lack those (skin tissues could be used as grafts for burned people for example).

I’m honestly genuinely impressed our bodies don’t do this more often. A single cell. A single cell! We’re made up of at least two hundred cells. And each one of those can decide to be teeth at any moment. And they just… put the teeth in our mouth correctly nearly every time? Damn, cell, go you!

    4. 3 post before this there was a nice sourdough bread, and from the distance this looked similar, then I opened it…

I had one of these on my ovary. It didn’t have teeth. It had hair, bones, etc. It was softball sized. It was my own DNA.

    6. Couldnt we cause this tumor under ideal conditions without risk to life and harvest teeth from it and plant them?

    7. To be honest those are nice teeth. I had a dermoud cyst removed and I always pictured the teeth in it, looking fed up. These are nice. Lol

    8. Just a friendly PSA to anyone who has overies…. if you have ever been told you have a dermoid cyst…. a terratoma is a type of dermoid cyst.
